26th birthday of Mandovi Express celebrated with enthusiasm & joy in Mumbai

As announced by the then Railway Minister Nitish Kumar in the Railway Budget, the Intercity Express started between Mumbai and Margao from July 1, 1999. This was the first express to provide daytime service on the Mumbai-Goa route.

The Konkankanya Express, which was running before, was providing night service, while the Diva Sawantwadi Passenger was running at a slow speed, causing difficulties for long-distance passengers. The Mandovi Intercity Express introduced the Konkan people to the habit of fast travel during the day.

Before the gauge change, the Mandovi Express used to run between Miraj and Vasco. But after the broad gauge route was completed, it was closed and the Intercity Express between Mumbai and Margao was renamed as the Mandovi Express. Also, the rake of the train, which previously had only seating coaches, was later merged with the Konkankanya Express and hence the Mandovi Express got sleeper coaches. Later, from June 10, 2019, both these trains were given modern LHB coaches.

From February 1, 2024, two modern AC three-tier economy coaches were added to the Mandovi Express. In this way, seeing different changes, the Mandovi Express has been serving the people of Konkan continuously for the last 26 years.

The 26th anniversary of the Mumbai-Madgaon Mandovi Express, which is famous as the Food Queen among railway enthusiasts and regular passengers, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy by railway enthusiasts at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 6 am.

Railway enthusiasts stayed up all night to decorate the engine of the train. Then, after the Konkankanya Express arrived in Mumbai from Madgaon at 5:45 am, some of the coaches of the train were also decorated. Railfan Chinmay Kole started the program by offering coconuts. After that, the engine of the train was honoured in the traditional Marathi manner to the sound of drums and trumpets. The event was celebrated by felicitating the train drivers (loco pilot and assistant loco pilot), ticket inspectors, and pantry car staff and cutting a cake.

Chinmay Kole, Sahil Kosireddy, Amit Phatak, Rahul Nair, Jinesh Sawant, Shubham Nagpure, Abhay Abhale, Anush Jadhav, Yash Rane, Omkar Phatak, Aditya Kambli, and Akshay Mahapadi worked hard for this. Some of these railway enthusiasts came from Pune to Mumbai at night just for this work and returned to Pune in the morning.

Along with this, Shreyash Hule, Mandar Sahastrabudhe, Pourav Shah, Deepak Nagmoti, Suman Ghosh, Joshua Mendoza, Prathamesh Prabhu, Sunit Chavan, Nilesh Parulekar, Param, Indrajit Raorane, Rohit Nair, Abhishek Asolkar, Tamil Selvan, Pawan, Pranit Shiwalkar, Nilay Katdare, Jaishankar, Kamal, Jason Coelho, Mihir Mathkar, Saurabh Sawant, Dhanush Chandan, Kunal Jadhav, Tejas Bhiwande, Himanshu Sharma, Tyrone D’Souza, Chintan Naik also co-operated.
